Awareness Efforts

Events

A few times a year we come together to honor individuals who have been affected by violent crime and thank those that provide support in our community.

Show that there is strength in numbers and participate in awareness and outreach events. When you honor others by attending a tree ceremony or an awards ceremony, you are supporting individuals impacted by violent crime and thanking those that provide support in our community. Join us, reach out and show that we are stronger together.

Tree Ceremony- April

This ceremony is a centerpiece event for the awareness week honoring those affected by violent crime. Attendees are invited to tie colored ribbons, signifying eleven types of violent crime on branches to represent themselves or others who have been impacted by violent crime.

National Crime Victims’ Rights Week Victim Service Awards: April

Help us ensure every victim has access to services, and help us honor the work that is already being done here in Alaska.

Monument Ceremony: July

The Alaska Victims Memorial Monument was established to commemorate and honor victims of homicide. This event is a special time to remember loved ones we have lost and to acknowledge the strength and courage of the survivors.

National Survivors of Homicide Victims Awareness Month                                      November 20-December 20

Through this national awareness campaign, we take the opportunity to draw attention to families and loved ones who have lost an individual to homicide. During this month-long effort, we educate the public about the impact of murder on families and communities. If you have not lost a loved one yourself, you may not be able to fathom the depth of loss felt following a homicide, but regardless, we stand beside those who are grieving to offer our empathy and support.
