J.R.’s Story

One year ago, I was riding by bike from work and on my way home with groceries on each of the handles when I was hit by a drunk driver. All I heard was “boom” and I was flat on the ground looking up at the sky. The drunk driver was fleeing and witnesses wrote her plate number down and called 911. I was in the hospital many days, I could not feel my legs. Once out of the hospital, I had missed wages and I was close to losing my apartment. My bicycle and means of transportation was taken for evidence.

Victims For Justice did a lot for me. I needed help getting back on my feet. They not only helped me get back on my feet, they would check on my progress with my physical therapist and they bought me a bicycle. People say I chose a really nice one! Victims For Justice also helped me fill out the application for the Violent Crimes Compensation Board and I recovered missed wages, rent, groceries and clothing. All I can say is, in those moments in which I felt pain, agony and fear, Victims for Justice was there to hold my hand and I am very grateful.
